New Pink Slip Lemonade story: Local networking group organizer proves it’s a drink best shared
As co-founders/co-leaders of the Network for Work job search networking group, guest blogger Tammy Hildreth and her colleagues have taken Pink Slip Lemonade-making to a whole new level. After being laid off a few short months ago, they decided they could cover a whole lot more job search ground by working together, so they started meeting regularly. Their idea caught on like wildfire with others in the same boat and, since then, the group has exploded from its original 4 members representing one company to hundreds from multiple companies across various industries.
The meeting I attended today was extremely high energy, with the dynamic Catherine Blake speaking on personal branding, members sharing “landing” stories (i.e. job placement successes), breakout sessions, networking opportunities, and many connections made. Pink Slip Lemonade all around!
Clearly, Tammy and her colleagues have their finger on the pulse, not to mention the mojo to pull it off. Not surprisingly, the media has taken notice, as seen in this Nashua Telegraph article and this WMUR-TV feature. It seems the company which shall remain nameless made a big mistake letting them walk out the door!
Here, Tammy shares some clever strategies she’s using to keep her financial plan in shape while she’s on her “summer vacation.”
I was impacted in February. I did not get much time to plan, but one thing I did immediately after getting the news, has made a big difference to my peace of mind. I decided to set aside a portion of each of my severance checks to save for both property taxes (two big payments a year) and home insurance. Taxes and insurance are big blips on the cash flow radar, and by setting them aside through auto-deposit into a money market account, I know I am covered, and I don’t miss the cash I never had in hand. If you already have taxes and insurance escrowed monthly, then look ahead and identify other big ticket expenses you know are coming. Set that money aside where it can earn some interest.
